Germany Euro 2020 Squad(Players List), Strengths, Weakness, Predictions: After winning the Euro Championships in 1996, Germany is once again believed to be one of the top contenders in the upcoming summer event. The country, however, had shown tepid show thereby getting eliminated at the Semi-final stage at the Euro 2016. Also, they suffered a huge loss at the 2018 World Cup along with a depressing performance in the UEFA Nations League.
Now they hold a great chance to prove themselves with their strengths at the elite Euro 2020 Championships. The team is geared up with much positivity, after clinching seven wins in the qualifying round mainly against the Netherlands. However, they have to compete strongly throughout the series mainly against the dominant France and Portugal in the group stage.
So before predicting more about Germany’s performance, first have a look at its Strengths and Weakness.
Strengths
Germany still stands well ahead of its peers with having one of the best and talented goal keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in their side. Also, Manual Neuer and Brend Leno are on the forefront to lead the country in the upcoming Euro 2020 championship. During the eight qualifying matches, Joachim Low’s side is on the edge, conceding one against the top teams in the Netherlands. Apart from the best goalkeepers, Germany is filled with an impressive and exciting sheet of international players.
This season has been quite impressive for a team with the novel performance of Timo Werner along with RB Leipzig. Also, the duo youngster Serge Gnabry and West Bromwich Albion look in a different mood to take over any defense in the world.
The team is full of energy, power, and excitement and there’s a possibility of joining Manchester City’s Leroy Sane into the squad who is showing steady recovering from his injury, which would certainly boost their momentum. Looking at preparations and teams line up, there is no denying that anyone would stop them from scoring goals and pose a threat to the potential opponent.
Weakness
While the team is ahead with the most dominant goalkeepers, one of the major concerns is their defense. Now its seems impossible for Germany to add prime players like Jerome Boateng or Mats Hummels.
Most of the prime players Niklas Sule is out of the season due to injury and Antonio Rudiger is unable to impress with Chelsea, lagging ahead of the defense. Looking after Jonathan Tah and Matthias Ginter’s current form, they are certainly far away to fit in that elite bracket. Despite being labeled as good defenders, there’s still scope for improvement.
German’s defense line up is not that experienced and the same is the condition with the rest of the players. Also, the newcomers Werner, Kai Havertz and Julian Brandt are some of the favourites for the Euro 2020 but still needed active performance to keep faith on.
German’s as of now don’t have experienced senior players to advise the squad when the things would turn worst during this summer.
Predictions
Germany this time has to face a fierce battle not only from the reigning World Champions France but also from the defending European Champions Portugal. So if they hope to sustain for a long, they need to showcase an extraordinary performance right from the beginning of the tournament.
Even though Germany managed to make it to the round 16, the things ahead will be quite nervy. As the game progress to the quarter-finals, the competition will reach a different level, and with Spain as the possible opponents at that stage, it could become a more crucial encounter for Germany to remain undefeated till the finals of the Euro Championship 2020.
